Welcome to Fort Warwick

Fort Warwick is located on Deer Creek in Green Bank, in Pocahontas County, West Virginia.  It was a militia fort built in 1774, by George Moffatts’ and George Matthews’ companies.  Over 125 militia trained here before marching west where they took part in the Battle of Point Pleasant.  The fort was a functional frontier refuge until the end of the Revolutionary War in 1783.

"The site of the fort is in grass, but it is not included within the cultivated fields in and around the forks of Deer Creek and it is one of the most beautiful spots to be found anywhere in the mountains.  It has already attracted the attention of historians and when the time comes to improve such scenic and historic places, this should be one of the first considered.  The fine growth of trees along the banks of Deer Creek hide the place from the passing tourist.  I had passed by often without going to see it, but I have fallen in love with the place and i do not know of a more pleasant retreat anywhere."
